Lemon8 is ByteDance's aesthetic discovery app for fashion, beauty, home and food. Since 22 January 2026, Lemon8's US operations have been run by the TikTok USDS Joint Venture, in which ByteDance holds only 19.9%. Creators can earn through an invitation-only Creator Monetization Program — there's no open program anyone can join. Paid advertising is live in six countries (US, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia); Denmark and the rest of the EU aren't among them yet.
Lemon8 is ByteDance's aesthetic discovery app for fashion, beauty, home and food — a cross between Pinterest and Instagram. Since 22 January 2026, Lemon8's US operations have been run by the TikTok USDS Joint Venture, in which Silver Lake, Oracle and MGX each hold 15%, and ByteDance retains only a 19.9% stake. Creators can earn through an invitation-only Creator Monetization Program — there's no open, public revenue program anyone can join, unlike TikTok's own Creativity Program. Paid advertising is live in six markets (US, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia); Denmark and the rest of the EU aren't among them yet, and this research found no documented Danish user base.
ByteDance launched Lemon8 in the US and UK in February 2023. The app positions itself as an aesthetic "lifestyle discovery app": posts read like a digital magazine rather than a chronological feed, organised around hashtags and topics primarily within fashion, beauty, home decor, travel and food — structurally closest to a cross between Pinterest's searchable discovery format and Instagram's image and video feed. Per industry reporting (including Campaign Asia), brands have had success working with nano and micro creators (often under 10,000 followers) in the platform's own style: content in the creator's own voice, often faceless, focused on the product, the place or the process rather than a polished ad feel.
Lemon8, like TikTok and CapCut, is an app under the ByteDance family — and is therefore covered by the same US ownership change as TikTok itself. Per TikTok's own newsroom, the TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC was formally established on 22 January 2026, with Silver Lake, Oracle and MGX as the three managing investors, each holding 15%, while ByteDance retains a remaining 19.9% stake. The announcement explicitly names that the Joint Venture's safeguards "also cover CapCut, and Lemon8" in the US. It's worth being precise about scope: the structure applies to US operations — this research found no documentation that it changes Lemon8's ownership or operations outside the US, including in the EU.
There's no single, ByteDance-confirmed MAU figure for Lemon8. Per a DataAI Mobile Performance Report from March 2026, Lemon8's global monthly active users (MAU) have grown to around 23.4 million, a 56% increase from roughly 15 million in early 2025. Statista put the figure lower, at over 16 million MAU, as of March 2025, per Campaign Asia's reporting. Both figures come from third-party app-analytics firms, not from a disclosure by ByteDance or Lemon8 itself, and should be treated as estimates, not a confirmed, official user count.
Lemon8 doesn't have an open revenue-share model any creator can join — there's no "Creator Fund" equivalent to TikTok's Creator Rewards Program. Instead, the platform runs an invitation-only Creator Monetization Program: creators who receive an invitation — often within specific niches like personal finance or productivity — can submit posts for approval and get paid per approved post. Several independent creators' own, converging accounts (including on Medium and in creators' own content on Lemon8 itself) put the rate at around $10 per approved post, with some campaigns allowing up to 3 posts a day, paid via PayPal after a content review. This is creators' own, mutually converging self-reported experience — not a published, official rate card from Lemon8 or ByteDance itself — and should be treated as such, not as a documented standard rate.
Lemon8 also runs a separate Creator Partnership Platform (creatorpartnership.lemon8-app.com), the platform's own portal for connecting brands and creators for paid collaborations, distinct from the Creator Monetization Program. The page wasn't accessible to automated fetch at the time of this research (25 August 2026), so the exact terms of a brand collaboration through the portal can't be documented directly here — treat the portal's existence as confirmed, not its specific terms.
Lemon8 began rolling out paid advertising in a closed beta in the US, Thailand and Japan in September 2025, bought through TikTok Ads Manager. Per TikTok Ads Manager's own help page (last updated July 2026), advertising on Lemon8 is today available in six markets: the US, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia — Denmark and the rest of the EU are not on the list. Ads appear in three placements (the For You Feed, the Search Results Page and an "Immersive Feed"), support four objectives (traffic, app promotion, lead generation and sales), and performance is reported together with the rest of TikTok's reporting, with a separate Lemon8 breakdown available via Custom Reporting.
In short: not documented yet. This research found no documented Danish or Nordic user base for Lemon8, and paid advertising hasn't rolled out to any EU country per TikTok Ads Manager's own market list. Lemon8 is also one of three apps — alongside RedNote and DeepSeek — that the US state of Texas's Governor Greg Abbott banned from state-issued devices on 29 January 2025, citing the risk of Chinese-linked data-harvesting apps. It's worth keeping the two things separate: Lemon8 isn't subject to the same independently documented technical security findings (unencrypted data transmission, static encryption keys) that EFF and Citizen Lab documented for RedNote — see RedNote (Xiaohongshu) as an emerging channel for brand and influencer marketing for the full picture. No equivalent independent technical review of Lemon8 itself was found in this research.

IF the brand is already active in the US, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia or Indonesia and works in fashion, beauty, home decor or food → Lemon8 is a real, advertisable channel worth testing, particularly with nano/micro creators.
IF the brand operates exclusively in Denmark, the Nordics or the rest of the EU → paid advertising isn't available yet, and there's no documented Danish user base; an organic pilot with no ad budget is the only option today, and even that rests on an unconfirmed audience.
IF the goal is creator content in "their own voice" without a polished ad feel → Lemon8's Pinterest/Instagram-hybrid format and nano/micro focus, described above, appear to be the platform's strength per industry reporting.
IF the decision depends on data security → keep Lemon8's Texas ban (shared with RedNote and DeepSeek) separate from RedNote's own, independently documented technical security findings — the two platforms aren't documented equally on this point.
The figures below are hypothetical and illustrate only how a brand might think through a small Lemon8 pilot — they are not a documented price or an industry average, and this is not a real Make Influence customer case.
A Danish beauty brand planning a US launch is considering a pilot with 5 nano creators (2,000-8,000 followers) on Lemon8, each paid DKK 500 for a post plus product — a combined fee of DKK 2,500. Because Lemon8 has no built-in tracking-link system equivalent to TikTok's or Instagram's, the brand instead sets a unique, UTM-tagged short link in each creator's bio, see UTM parameters for influencer campaigns. Assume, hypothetically, that the links together generate 40 clicks, of which 6 lead to a purchase at an average order value of DKK 350 — that's tracked revenue of 6 × 350 = DKK 2,100, lower than the combined DKK 2,500 fee. As with any "link in bio" format, the brand should expect a significant dark-traffic gap of purchases where the customer saw the content but searched for the brand directly instead of clicking — see discount codes vs tracking links for why that gap is typically large on a "link in bio" format with no paid ad product to support it.
In Make Influence's experience, no Danish brand has yet requested Lemon8 as part of an influencer deal — which naturally follows from the lack of a documented Danish user base and the fact that the platform's paid advertising hasn't rolled out to any EU country yet. Our recommendation is to treat Lemon8 as a channel worth knowing about and following — particularly if the brand is already active in one of the six countries where advertising is live — rather than a channel Danish brands should plan an active campaign around today.
The app can be downloaded and used globally, but no documented Danish user base was found, and paid advertising hasn't rolled out to any EU country.
Lemon8's US operations have been owned since 22 January 2026 by the TikTok USDS Joint Venture (Silver Lake, Oracle and MGX with 15% each, ByteDance with 19.9%) — the same structure as TikTok and CapCut in the US. Ownership outside the US isn't documented as having changed in this research.
Yes, but only through an invitation-only Creator Monetization Program — there's no open program any creator can join.
Yes, in six countries (US, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia) through TikTok Ads Manager. Denmark and the rest of the EU aren't included yet.
Both are aesthetic discovery platforms, but Pinterest works as a searchable "visual search engine" with no direct creator payment, while Lemon8 has an (invitation-only) direct payment program. See Snapchat and Pinterest influencer marketing for Pinterest's full mechanics.
RedNote is an independent Chinese company with a documented, serious data-security profile (EFF/Citizen Lab) and a real advertising access barrier — Lemon8 is a ByteDance app with no equivalent documented security findings, but with its own access constraint (only 6 ad countries). See RedNote (Xiaohongshu) as an emerging channel for brand and influencer marketing.
Threads is Meta-owned, requires an Instagram account and has no built-in creator payment program at all — the opposite of Lemon8's invitation-only model. See Threads as an influencer marketing channel.
Per industry reporting, nano and micro creators who post in their own voice rather than a polished ad format. See nano, micro, macro or mega influencers for the general tier breakdown.
No — Lemon8 has no documented built-in shopping or sales-tracking feature equivalent to TikTok Shop. A brand is left to its own solutions, like a UTM-tagged bio link or a unique discount code. See TikTok Shop LIVE Shopping for the contrast and discount codes vs tracking links for the general tracking methods.
