Nadja Hansen: Being yourself in a virtual world

We sat down with the Nadja Hansen for a talk about her life as a creator and how to stay true to yourself in a virtual world.
With a coffee in hand and hair tied in a messy bun—Nadja defied expectations of a typical ex-reality show participant, exuding a down-to-earth, girl-next-door charm backed by her fantastic and deep insights into her creator career.

How would you describe yourself as a creator?

In short - I would describe myself as a virtual friend. Somebody you can relate to and trust.
That’s at least what I’m striving to be.

What is the best thing about being a creator?

To be allowed to be creative! I always loved to take pictures and create videos.
And as a creator,  I am allowed to do it in my very own way. That’s a huge privilege.

And what’s the worst thing?

The flip side of the coin is the responsibility that comes with the freedom. When you don’t have a traditional job, you’re always at work. And then you have to be very aware that you’re alone and ultimately responsible for everything. You have to develop ideas and produce, optimize, and so on, all by yourself.

So you have to be good at setting boundaries for yourself - otherwise, you can completely burn out without even realizing it.

What’s a good brand collaboration?

First and foremost, it's about recognizing yourself in the brand your collaborating with. It should be something I would personally pull out my card and spend money on. If it's not, then I'm betraying the trust my followers have in me. For example, I don't create content for dating apps - because it's not something I would use myself.

And last but not least, freedom is crucial to me. If too many strict demands are placed, the format becomes forced. I would much rather have the freedom to create good content when an idea naturally arises in my life than to absolutely have to make two posts a week.

When there is freedom, work is driven by passion and creativity - it is not forced. When it is forced it quickly becomes overly commercial and artificial.

How do you become a good creator?

It might sound a little cliche, but it is about daring to be yourself. Daring to be cringy in a place where millions potentially can see you. Then you also have to post a lot and try out a bunch of things.

And then have an enormous respect and gratitude towards your own community. You have to remember that it is about giving back something of value to those who choose to spend their time following you.

It is only because of them, that you get to live out your dream as a creator.
